Cocktail of the Week: Last-Minute Mulled Wine

‘Tis the season for last-minute house guests, and because it’s also the season for Yuletide drinking, you’ll need something fun to serve them. Enter this super-simple recipe for last-minute mulled wine. This drink is so easy to make that you could whip up a bulk batch to serve at your venue. My recipe makes about six servings but you can multiply it to make as many as you need.

Six-serving recipe

  • 1 bottle of fruity red wine (I recommend using Beaujolais)
  • 4 oz of bourbon or brandy
  • 4 star anise pods
  • 2 long orange peels
  • 2 tsp white sugar
  • Cinnamon sticks for garnish

Combine all ingredients into a medium saucepan. Cook over low heat until warm, making sure not to bring to a boil. Remove from heat and let stand for 10 minutes. Serve in mugs and garnish with a cinnamon stick.
