Valentine’s Day means plenty of dinners for two, of course–but others take it as an opportunity for a more original event. As the holiday approaches, let’s look at some of the exciting, creative events at bars across the country.
Union Hall, Brooklyn: At Love Bites: The Power Ballads Sing-Along, we’ll let them describe the activities–“What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than by singing along and pumping your fist in the air to a soul shaking collection of pro- and anti- love power ballad music videos from the 80’s and 90’s?” In addition to this sort of mass karaoke, there’s an air guitar competition, prizes, themed drinks and free Valentine’s candy.
Howl at the Moon Dueling Piano Bar, Boston: At the “Love Sux” party, there’s no cover–if you bring in a “mutilated photo of your ex.” Expect themed cocktail specials and plenty of “anti-Valentine’s Day” tunes at this annual celebration, now in its ninth year.
Bird’s, Los Angeles: We’re sensing a theme here; at Bird’s Anti-Valentine’s party, in its twentieth year, events include “voodoo doll therapy,” prizes for the best “getting dumped” stories, and “blackheart martinis.”
