Events Uncorked: Choosing the Right Wine
Bordeaux wines have a reputation — old-fashioned vintages that are really expensive and mostly ordered by snobby elites.
Wine educator Philippe Newlin says that’s not the Bordeaux he knows.
“Bordeaux is this region, where for 2,000 years has been at it, and believe it or not, they’re pretty good at it. And there are a lot of people who put a lot of Bordeaux on the … supermarket shelves in France for anywhere from 5 to 10 Euros,” he said.
Newlin recently shared his knowledge of Bordeaux wines with attendees of our annual EventCamp. He explained the history of the region, the Bordeaux classification system, and tips on choosing the right wine for event clients.
“Typically they’re not going to order the very, very top Bordeaux because they are kind of expensive … a lot of properties now have their second wines and they have their third wines. So you can get a brand name and yet have a much less expensive wine.”
