Cocktail of the Week: The Washington Cocktail

For most of this week, I’ll be living it up in the nation’s capital. Well, in reality, I’m hosting a Tripleseat University event and visiting a few amazing customers, which to me is living it up. With that said, I felt compelled to honor Washington, D.C. with one of my favorite simple cocktails, the Washington Cocktail, also known as the George Washington. Your mind may immediately go to those Washington apple shots you were forced into downing in college, but this cocktail is a lot more sophisticated, and in my opinion, a lot more delicious.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz. dry vermouth
  • 1 oz. brandy
  • 1/4 oz. simple syrup
  • 1 dash Angostura bitters
  • 1 Luxardo maraschino cherry for garnish

In a cocktail shaker with ice, add all ingredients and stir. Strain into a rocks glass with a few small cubes or one large cube. Garnish with a Luxardo maraschino cherry. This drink can also be enjoyed straight up in a chilled coupe glass. The choice is yours.
