Cocktail of the Week: Apple Cider Margarita
As I was perusing my local Whole Foods on Sunday afternoon I noticed workers stocking shelves with my favorite fall treat. There it stood, nestled between overly priced infused water and freshly squeezed orange juice, a beacon of light symbolizing the coming of fall and the return of my most treasured, easy to make and even easier to drink cocktails. I’m sure many of you think I am referring to pumpkin or pumpkin spice, but that’s not the case. I like to save that fall tradition for candles and front stoops. The fall tradition I most covet is apple cider and the cocktail is the deliciously drinkable apple cider margarita. You don’t need to be a mixology pro to master this cocktail. It’s simple to create and tastes great batched for a group event or single made for a cozy night in front of the TV.
- Fresh Apple Cider
- Lime Juice (I like to use fresh-squeezed but Nellie & Joe’s Key Lime Juice works well too)
- Cinnamon, Sugar and Kosher Salt for the rim
- Nutmeg and Cinnamon Sticks for garnish
One Serving Recipe
- 2 oz Mezcal
- 3 oz Fresh Apple Cider
- 1.5 oz Lime Juice
First, wet the rim of your glass with water or use a lime wedge. Dip the dampened rim into a mixture of cinnamon, sugar and kosher salt. Add a few ice cubes to the glass. Next add ice, mezcal, fresh apple cider and lime juice into a shaker. Give it several good shakes and strain into your rimmed glass filled with ice. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and a touch of nutmeg. If you want to get really crazy buy some dried apple and add that to your garnish as well! To batch this recipe simply multiply the number of drinks you need with each pour amount, add ingredients to a pitcher and stir until well blended.
