We’re all familiar with margaritas–delicious whether frozen or shaken, standard or fruit-flavored. But bartenders are getting increasingly creative with the classic cocktail. Here are three places to try a modern margarita, and five drinks to look out for.

Dos Caminos: NYC
This New York high-end Mexican chain, with locations across the city, has an extensive margarita menu. Try the Durango, with House-Infused Three Chile El Jimador Blanco, Papaya, and Agave; or the Calle Fresca, with Cazadores Blanco, Mango, Cucumber, and an ancho chili-salt rim. (At Dos Caminos Meatpacking District, Dos Caminos Park Avenue, Dos Caminos Soho, and Dos Caminos Third Avenue.)

Los Feliz: NYC
The Lower East Side taqueria excels at cocktails, including their Hibiscus, a margarita variant with Herradura Silver, a hibiscus reduction, lime, and agave; or the Love potion 109, with Serrano infused Corzo Blanco, guava, lime juice, pineapple and a chile-salted rim.

Masa Azul: Chicago
While this Chicago restaurant in Logan Square does a number of cocktails well, one favorite is the “Gypsy,” with tequila blanco, orange liqueur, citrus, and the unusual addition of maraschino, all with a green chile-habanero rim.
